Description

This role will work with Climate Action & Sustainability team and council departments to enable delivery of the Climate and Ecological Emergency Strategy, to help collaborate and co-ordinate our plans, taking the opportunities to collaborate across the council and with external partners. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team, and with key stakeholders in the pursuit of our ambitions. You will cover a broad portfolio but mostly in connection with energy, whether that's on retrofit, energy flexibility or heat networks, solar strategies and community energy, or net zero neighbourhood priorities. Knowing that climate action is about collaboration, you will present engagingly and persuasively.

Duties

  • To work with and support the Net Zero Manager and officers across LBE including in Strategic Property, Housing Asset Management and Economy & Skills to drive forward delivery of Net Zero, for Ealing as a council and as a Borough, and identify and take forward opportunities for advancing the other climate priorities of the borough and West London sub region.
  • To develop, lead and manage approved Climate Action and Sustainability projects including the development of project plans (eg. Local Area Energy  Plan Phase 2, Climate Budgeting, Community Energy, Renewable PV projects), resource plans and the management of risks.
  • To help create and develop project ideas to entice further funding for the advancement of Net Zero, climate ambitions and the circular economy, for example, through existing national schemes such as Social Housing Decarbonisation Scheme and Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme
  • To connect together and convene Climate/Net Zero networks across the council, various departments and businesses that can share challenges and opportunities especially where funding is available.
  • To manage external consultancy services supporting or delivering the team’s projects; to use contract monitoring tools to ensure contracts are delivered on time and within budget.
  • To be aware of and actively seeking funding opportunities; to engage with all funding bodies and be prepared to develop bids when opportunities arise.
  • To keep abreast of policy changes, technological innovations and industry news, and to disseminate relevant information to stakeholders.
  • To facilitate and support the delivery of Climate and Ecological Emergency strategy, updates, and enable services to deliver against its objectives.

Required qualifications

  • Experience in one or more of: stakeholder engagement; sustainable development; environment or climate policy.
  • Experience and understanding of partnership working, regional challenges and stakeholder management.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Experience of communicating effectively with public and private sector stakeholders, e.g. government departments or local authorities and senior management in business.
  • A degree or equivalent vocational qualification in Environmental, Transport, Sustainability, Marketing/Comms, Planning or other experience relevant to the person specification.
